| Meet Dash! |
In speaking with our area technology coaches and other instructional technologists around the state, coding would inevitably enter the conversation. We knew we needed to add something to specifically support coding in the younger grades. Meet Dash!
Dash is controlled with your choice of several free apps. Programming a robot like Dash allows students immediate feedback to their code. The apps are available for both iOS and Android. (If you are planning to connect with iPads, you will need something newer than iPad 2's) There are prebuilt challenges, a curriculum, and accessories that enable to Dash to do things like launch light objects or bulldoze the floor or even connect other Lego's to build upon.

Currently there are six 'Dash Coding Center' kits that contain one Dash robot and launcher, one box of challenge cards, one launcher kit, one building brick connectors set, and one accessory pack (all pictured below). John and I feel this would make an excellent station rotation center in your classroom or might help you and a few students survive indoor recess! Program Dash to act out a story, become an animal you're students are studying, or to give a tour of your classroom.
In addition to the coding center kits we also have a classroom kit for teachers to utilize. The classroom kit features eight Dash robots, six Dot robots, and enough building brick accessories for all of them. The Dot robots are the top portion of Dash and fully programmable. They just are not able to move about the room. This would be a great way to bring programming to your entire class all at one time!
